SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos is a classic fighting game released in 2003 by Playmore (now SNK) for the Neo Geo arcade and home platform. It is a crossover title that brings together iconic characters from SNK's and Capcom's renowned fighting game franchises, including The King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown, Street Fighter, and Darkstalkers. This installment marked the third entry in a series of crossover games.

Gameplay:

  • The gameplay mechanics of SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos are heavily influenced by SNK's The King of Fighters series, particularly drawing from The King of Fighters 2002. It maintains a four-button configuration along with various familiar techniques. The game departs from the Team Battle format seen in KOF and adopts a traditional round-based one-on-one fighting style.
  • One notable addition to gameplay is the Front Grand Step, offering players the ability to cancel attacks into a forward dash. This technique allows for strategic offensive and defensive plays, requiring one level of the Power Gauge to execute when performed while guarding against an opponent's assault.
  • An innovative feature introduced in the title is the Groove Power Gauge System, encompassing three distinct levels. The Groove gauge fills up as players land attacks or successfully block incoming strikes. Upon reaching Level 1 or Level 2, characters can unleash Super Special Moves, execute Guard Cancel Attacks, or perform Guard Cancel Front Step maneuvers to diversify combat tactics.
  • Upon ascending to maximum gauge capacity through accumulation, a MAX Activation phase triggers, temporarily transforming the gauge into a timer. During MAX Activation, players gain unparalleled freedom to cancel any move at will, in addition to deploying Super Special Moves and Guard Cancels. Once the timer expires, the gauge reverts to Level 2 status.
  • Furthermore, each fighter possesses an exclusive 'Exceed' move only deployable when their remaining life falls below half, providing an additional layer of depth and strategy to engagements.
